The Swedish windsurfer Markus Rydberg sent us a Pushloop variation, which he calls “The Viking Loop”. He did not land it perfectly yet, but he will. It looks pretty scary. Markus Rydberg: “It basically started with me trying to get my tweaked pushloops in on port tack. Got one really wrong that Gustav caught on camera. We figured out, while watching it on the computer, that it could be a new kind of loop. So I went out and tried it on purpose a few times and during my last day in Pozo I finally landed it! It’s a pretty sketchy move and feels a bit scary being upside down and back winded in the air, but it’s a good adrenaline rush and it looks pretty cool! It feels really awesome to have come up with a new move and I’m super stoked!!”

It would be interesting to hear from Markus – To get a similar rotation I do the following: – Start Pushloop of a very steep ramp. – Throw the sail a little earlier than usual – Don’t bend your front arm (or in other words don’t bent your elbow and pull the sail/boom towards and underneath you. Keep your front arm relatively straight and your overall upper body more open. Result: the rotation will become very much delayed and feel funky. If the mast tip catches or if the sail will not go through the wind in time you end… Read more »
Hi Tom, Happy you like the move and the name! Your explanation is absolutely right. To go from a steep ramp and to have a relatively straight front arm seems to be the trick.. Then you get back winded and gets the rotation. But have had some nasty wipeouts when you doesn’t get it right.. Sorry for the late reply, Keep ripping and see you on the water Tom!
I like the name as well and that someone dares to try new stuff. That pushes the sport and that is what we want, don´t we? Of course “new move” is a critical topic regarding competitions, e.g. two different moves. I would also regard it as a pushloop variation like a tweaked pushloop is a variation.
Well.. it is a new move if you analyse it and go for it on purpose (not cos something went wrong) and land it – even wet 🙂 I like the Viking Loop name – Markus is the only Swedish Rider on tour and it’s cool to make a stamp for the Vikings 🙂 Like from me – hope he lands it dry soon! 🙂
Looks really awesome but why call it viking?Nowadays people can’t really find cool names for their moves.Take skateboarding for example with some names that just are perfect:gazzelle flip, ghetto bird, hardflip, lazer flip, hospital flip etc..Anyway the move seems cool but kinda scary haha
keep it up dude!
peace
Not new just a pushloop attempt and lack of control…anyway it looks awesome, eva oude did some pushies like this a couple of years ago when she learned pushloop…
