Day 4 of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup Sylt was a windy and wavy one with 11 hours of non stop competition. And after a long day two winners got crowned: Sarah-Quita Offringa and Thomas Traversa, who won the wave events.

Sarah-Quita Offringa & Thomas Traversa win the wave event at Westerland
Wave Ladies
The double elimination of the women was tough. The big shorebreak was a challenge especially for the younger riders, but we are sure Alexia Kiefer Quintana, Maria Morales or Mar de Arce will take it easy and return next year again. Iballa Moreno showed a great performance in her first heats but Maaike Huvermann was sailing good and took down Iballa. Afterwards she won against German Lina Erpenstein and Wave World Tour leader Justyna Sniady, who was fighting with the shore break her whole heat.
In the final Sarah-Quita Offringa didn’t risk much but showed a solid performance in the difficult conditions. Maaike Huvermann was tired from her heats before and couldn’t do much to prevent Sarah’s victory. But Maaike will finish the event with her first wave podium.

Wave Men
Imagine, the wave competition for the men started at 7.30am and ended around 7.00pm. What an intense day!
Ben Proffitt was behind the mic for almost 12 hours! After the completion of the men’s single elimination with Thomas Traversa on top, a full double elimination was still scheduled. Marcilio Browne, who has a cold right now, stormed through the double elimination until the final. He first took down world title contender Ricardo Campello, who finished the event in 9th. Definitely not the result Ricardo was hoping for, as he now lost the leading position in the wave ranking.
Marcilio then defeated the 2019 European Wave Champ 2019 Marc Pare, Adam Lewis, IWT tour leader Antoine Martin, last year’s world champion Victor Fernandez and 4 times PWA world champion Philip Köster.
In the end of the day the conditions got more difficult with lighter winds and the first final against Thomas had to be cancelled. Thomas dominated the following heat and won with 23.66 vs 8.87 points of Brawzinho, who had no energy left for this final after winning 6 heats in a row.
The Maui event will decide the title. Right now Philip Köster is leading the overall ranking ahead of Victor Fernandez and Marcilio Browne.
