On the 18th of August some of the best Greek freestyle windsurfers and international guest riders met in Naxos (Greece) for the annual “Laguna Beach Park – Freestyle Show” hosted by LagunaBeachPark (Anastasia Chioti and Stam Pro). More than 100 spectators enjoyed the show and even more through the live feed on Youtube. With winds blowing from 25-30 knots a perfect contest was guaranteed. The show started with 4 young guns in the age between 6-11 showing the spectators that even the smallest can plane on a windsurf board as long as there is wind.
Then Teo Bathrellos, Yarden Meir, Stam Promponas, Dimitris Malliopoulos and Lennart Neubauer entertained the spectators with a non-competitive freestyle show demonstrating some of the most extravagant and difficult freestyle moves, like Air-Kabi, Culo, Burner no-handed, massive Forward Loops.
After this show it was time for the official contest with 16 riders participating. The freestylers put on a high-quality performance making the judges’ work really hard! The final heat between Lennart Neubauer and Yarden Meir was a very close one but in the end Lennart won by 2-points difference in a total of 55 points! The freestylers landed Kabikuchis, Air Kabikuchis, Skopus, Air Flakas, double moves and special tricks like the double Grubby from Yarden Meir, the Gozzada by Stam Pro and the whistling Eslider by Teo Bathrelos.
“It was the third time that I competed in this amazing little Naxian contest. The first time I was last, last year I managed to get 3rd, and this year I finally won the annual freestyle contest at my homespot. It was a very close final between Yarden Meir and me with only 2 points difference but this time the hours and hours of training in this little lagoon paid off for me. And the more than 100 spectators pushed me to do my best. Sooooo stoked!,” a happy Lennart Neubauer told us.
