What a nice move. Switch Air Kono by Italian windsurfer Giovanni Passani filmed in Brazil last year. “I think it is a very technical move and can be improved to different variations, like into Air Spock,” Giovanni told us.
Complete Switch Konos are pretty rare. We see a lot of normal stance Konos or semi Switch Konos but not the full 360° Switch Konos like Steven van Broeckhoven already did in 2012. So, maybe more riders are now motivated to do the real Switch Kono or the Air version of it.

Yes you are right, if you compare it with the normal stance Kono. But what is Steven’s Switch Kono then?
According to the german DIN-norm for freestyle windsurfing, the addition “Air” can only be awarded if a “sliding-move” is executed in the air OR when two rotations of a “power-move” are done in the air. So far there is an exceptions to this rule: the Air-Skopu and Air-Kabikuchi, where the slide added to the end of the move is executed in the air.
Now, as the Switch-Kono already is a power-move and there is no classical sliding over the nose, the exception can not be applied, no matter how fucking perfect the machine, that Passani is, is executing the move!
You are absolutely right and we can of course change the name again. We only called it Air because of Steven’s Switch Kono version from 2012. Maybe the Switch Kono is a sliding move and can’t be compared to the Normal Stance Kono?
@Styla95 thanks for the technical explanation. One thing I do not understand: being skopu switch kono in to puneta (which actually is a sliding move) why do you consider the airskopu an excepiton to the rule you’ve mentioned? Thanks
Well, first of all it’s only my perspective, different people will interpret moves differently and categorise them in a different way.
I see the skopu as a switch kono into “some kind of a puneta”, so a power move int some extra sliding in the opposite way. The first part is already in the air and in the airskopu also the second part is done in the air.
I don’t know how to explain it better, in the end it doesnt matter as long as the move feels good, and looks good 😉

But then what about the ‘air shaka’? non of the Shaka is done as a rotation from the nose so this would also just be a shaka? I agree with C7, like with the skopu and kabikuchi, if there is any sliding part of the move done in the air then it becomes on air move. With the switch kono you slide backwards briefly whilst flipping the rig.
And in this one he does not slide so it is in the air.
Air pasko is another one where you don’t slide on the nose
I get the point, but I still agree with Julien. To me Passani just executes the switch Kono perfectly.
The Pasko is already an Airmove btw., in the Shaka you do lean a bit on the nose to slide after the landing and during the switch Kono not.
But still it’s legit to name it Switch Air Kono her on C7 to point out that the whole move is done in the air.
Again, with Stevens he comes down on the nose, the pasko is a 540 (air flaka into shaka) and air pasko is a 720 (air flaka into air shaka), both had different names during the PWA.
I geuss everyone just sees it differently =) and its all sick!
