Thank you all for your comments. We love receiving feedback, whether it is about our boards, our marketing content or anything else. Every time you point something out, we learn, and ultimately, we improve thanks to you. There is no freestyle in our flagship video because of logistics constraints that would be too complicated to explain here. As Flo said, freestyle is indeed a niche but so is slalom or wavesailing. This is what makes windsurfing special. All of these disciplines are connected yet so different. At the moment, there is nothing we can do regarding these logistics constraints but… Read more »

Windsurfing basically stems from the heart and soul. What a shame and waste of money for positions like marketing directors, product managers, editors of 12 min. clips etc scum. Who is better Starboard, JP, NP…who cares. Just the fact that there is such a redundant thing as a promo vid is repelling quite some would be buyers.
… and there goes the nice mature conversation. You seem like quite the sourpuss. I guess you can always buy one of the other companies’ products – you know the ones’ that don’t do promo vids and other repelling and wasteful things. I bet being a marketing director or product manager or editor of a windsurfing “DVD” is a lot of fun – more fun than being a marketing director or product manager or editor of most anything else that does not stem from the heart and soul and I have no problem with the fact that my purchase supports… Read more »

I thought this was a fun video. Maybe a little long for my current mood. But to the comments comparing to JP/NP, I will say that I worked for a few brands in the industry at different times and JP/NP makes no money. In fact, a year or two ago MR Neil Pryde wanted to stop doing windsurfing because it lost money. Starboard I htink makes money and iz focused on supporting teamriders and developing equipment. I would rather ahve a brand build good equipment and support pros before spending the money on flashy glossy marketing.
JP is doing alright now thanks to it’s SUP boards, Neilpryde on the otherhand…

I love it that for once we are having a nice, mature conversation! I really like the previous comments, plus that little inside view of someone who is actually IN the business of wind- and kite surfing, if I could add something is that I would really like Starboard to keep concentrating mostly on making good products that keep our sport moving forward. They have shown it on many occasions and there’s very few manufacturers that dare invest so much in innovation AND apply it on mass production. So. please Starboard, do NOT lose focus, people buy your stuff because… Read more »

Interesting points. I am afraid I will have to disagree with the both of you, though. So yes, maybe starboard is more chaotic and they don’t do things exactly by the book, but they give back to the sport in a major way least of all by sponsoring and/or floating product to just about half the windsurf community. They also obviously have a much broader range (with a ridiculous amount of choices for virtually everyone that wants to get in the water) and a much “bigger” vision. I truly believe that this comes from a real passion for the sport… Read more »
