Two days ago Martin Haglev filmed this perfect Backloop on the way in at Pozo Izquierdo, Gran Canaria. We saw other windsurfers trying this maneuver (and we were at many events), but we never saw a clean landing like this live.

ricardos of the lip is much hurder no question about it. fransisco goya has landed many push loops on the way in in pozo many years ago. koester is a sick sailor
This is for sure different than a frontside backloop off the lip but this Koster loop is also very sick. So hard to go back in front of the wave with such a small wave. Koster powers so fast into the wind. Very sick.
This is NOT an aerial backloop. Ricardo’s was done downwind, while surfing, as a proper off the lip. This is just a normal backloop. Yes it’s done off a wave and it’s landed back but it doesn’t matter. It’s onshore and it’s jumped going upwind as you normally would.
Get REAL, people.
you’re right. Ricardo set’s the bar. kosters and marcilios backloops just done in onshore winds over a wave… we can see this on lakes as well…
cheers
Yes you are right, it is not off the lip. I suppose I got a bit ahead of myself there. But I still think it does matter, that it is landed back in the wave. Pozo’s “special” wind/wave direction makes this move even harder and I think it is not “just a normal Backloop”.
Slightly harder than a regular backloop but sure not even close to the difficulty of the actual Backloop otl. I mean you take off fully downwind, off the lip, and have to rotate 450° into upwind instead of a regular 360°, with no power in the sail whatsoever.
To date the only other sailor that I have seen pull off a backside off the lip backie in Pozo is Browzinho. I have heard the pros discussing it as the most difficult wave jump…. getting the highest scores. Few are the chosen ones…

His style is less formated, but it is a clean landing.

Yep, shame on me. Not live, though,-)
