Day 6 Ponta Preta, Sal, 2022 SOMWR 10x Cabo Verde PWA World Cup – 3 completed heats & two cancellations of heat 19

On day 6 the first three heats (heat 16-18) of the double elimination got completed in decent waves and (almost) side shore wind. Antony Ruenes, Takara Ishii, Josep Pons, Marino Gil Gherardi, Victor Fernandez and Loick Lesauvage advanced into the second round. Victor, the three times Wave World Champion, had the rides of the day and showed that he still believes in a comeback in the double elimination. He would need to win 10 more heats to take the victory back home to Almerimar. Possible?
The PWA tried to complete the first round in the double elimination and ran 45 minutes long heats. But as soon as the high tide kicked in, the swell got too much north, too. With the dropping wind it was difficult to complete all 4 heats of the first round. So heat 19 got cancelled and started a second time only to be cancelled again 8 minutes before the heat end with Arthur Arutkin leading and Philip Köster in second qualifying position. 26 riders are still in and every single rider of them still can win the 2022 event.
Antoine Albert, the Flechet brothers Titouan & Julien, Alex Grand-Guillot, Adam Warchol and Miguel Chapuis are out and can focus on free sailing.

That was also the end for day 6 in Sal, Cabo Verde with the sun starting to set. Sailors will meet again tomorrow morning at 8am local time (UTC +2 hours) for the skippers’ meeting – action commencing from 8:15am (UTC +2 hours) if conditions allow. Another swell will arrive.

Some updates about the event

The PWA returns to Cabo Verde for the 5th time (for the first time in 12 years) and runs the 2022 SOMWR 10x Cabo Verde PWA World Cup together with Josh Angulo and a few partners on the island of Sal from February 20 – 28, 2022. On day 1 the first round of the single elimination got completed. Day 2 was the day to finish the single elimination. After a 60min final heat it was Bernd Roediger who won the single elimination in front of Marcilio Browne, Thomas Traversa and Antoine Martin.
