Follow Russian windsurfer Shamil Ageev to different spots around his home town Saint Petersburg. St. Petersburg is not only the cultural capital of Russia but also the capital of Russian windsurfing and offers a lot of windsurfing spots for different wind directions. On the western side the city meets the Gulf of Finland, which is the easternmost part of the Baltic Sea and on the other side lies Lake Ladoga. You can find quality onshore conditions as well as during summer and autumn.
Windsurfing in Saint Petersburg
Video by Kirill Gapeshko
I windsurfed behind Pribaltyskaya Hotel in 1993-1994 when I was student from Japan living in SPGU dormitory at Karabrestroy Ur. There was windsurf club. Anyone still windsurf there? We windsurfed midnight under white night in summer and on ice in winter.
Hey Tony,
the coastline there has changed significantly since that times. The city created an island in front of the hotel, and nowe there is a new district with enormous cruise port and houses. But we all remember the good times spent there, both Shamil and I started our windsurfing lives there like many other good riders such as Egor Popretinskiy, for example.
Nice to hear that this place even influenced windsurfers from so far away, as you are)))
Cool, nice clip from my home town! 🙂
