Hawaiian waterman Kai Lenny (US-1112) released a video with some brilliant Ho’okipa wave sailing action filmed during fall 2019. It looks like Kai enjoys windsurfing a lot. Despite a busy schedule Kai Lenny participated in the prestigious Aloha Classic and finished in 4th. It’s great to see Kai returning to the professional windsurfing and he nearly finished on the podium.
Unfortunately he has injured his right hand quite badly at Jaws on November 18. Kai: “The carabiner from the bow line hooked on my hand as my jetski was dragged onto the rocks at Jaws and ripped a good chunk.” We wish a speedy recovery!!
Kai Lenny with world class wave sailing action from Ho’okipa, Maui, Hawaii
Radical wave-sailing. Lenny is such a multi-talent. On style: I find it interesting to see that he makes his turns with a lot of back foot pressure, even though you would expect to see more ‘surfy’ turns, made on the front foot and with the upper body above the centre of the board, given his surfing skills and experience. He is more Mark Angulo than Graham Ezzy in that respect.
