The Butterfly Effect landed in Cabarete on July 30, 2011. The Butterfly Effect began in Hawaii in 2007 and was founded by Tatiana Howard and Juliana Shelef, who are both avid water women. They goal is to bring women together to enjoy windsurfing, surfing, kite surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and tow in surfing. This year’s event in Cabarete, the 3rd annual, saw its largest increase in participants registering 80 waterwomen from all over the world. Local and visiting women gathered on the beach of Cabarete to complete a 4km downwind ride from Cabarete Bay to Playa Encuentro. The event was open to women who windsurf, kitesurf, stand up paddle(SUP) or kayak. Over the course of the event many other girls and women were inspired to get out on the ocean and try some of the sports for the first time.

“There is such a powerful presence of waterwomen here in Cabarete from all over the world and I have had the pleasure of watching the event grow over the last three years. The Cabarete community is motivated and united when it comes to supporting events and raising funds for local charities. There is a special energy here and Cabarete is one of my favorite destinations. I am already looking forward to 2012.“ Tatiana Howard, founder, The Butterfly Effect.
