UPDATE 8.6.2013: The petition is already over. Unfortunately the piers have already been approved.
The petition:
This is a petition to stop a hotel in Sal building a breakwater on Ponta Preta, Capo Verde Islands. Not only is it one of the best waves in the world, but a major loggerhead turtle nesting site, which are an endangered species. If the hotel is allowed to build the break water then the waves will be destroyed as well as the nesting site. I hope this is of interest to you!

The developer wants to build the breakwater because he realises he has made a mistake. He should have known that the coastline near his development is quite wild, and it’s the Atlantic ocean with wonderful surf. And it’s ironic that his development is named after turtle, but in Spanish. They speak Portuguese in Sal Cape Verde.
There are some great places to swim in Sal, but to destroy one of the world’s best surf locations would be very sad. This is the reason many people came to Sal in the first place.
