Ricardo Campello announces his end with JP and NP. There were rumors already last year, that Ricardo’s contract with JP/NP will come to end. Ricardo was sailing with these two brands since 2000. Ricardo did maybe miss the podiums this year, BUT he was the best ranked JP/NP rider (5th) in the PWA overall ranking.Â
Ricardo Campello: “For more than 10 years being sponsored by JP boards and Neilpryde sails I sadly announce that I won’t be riding them anymore for 2014. It is a very sad news for me but I have learned a lot with them and maybe now it’s time for a change. Still don’t know what Im going to do next year but I will try as much as I can to be on the water! I will give more details soon!”

As news go on it looks like Fanatic and Hotsails both lost an international wave sailor. Köster left Pryde, gues the next logic step is Severne for him. Exciting situation … wait and see. Furthermore i think some People should not debate so emotionally. Team riders come and leave. Change is allways exiting and sets free new energy. I think Ricardo is a pretty laid back character. He can be off a freestyle board for months and come back and absolutely kills it. I think if he would train more focused he could absolutely win a wave title in the… Read more »
So people should be excited that Ricardo got sacked? He doesn’t have a job right now, these are bad times for the sport
Dude … He has a Windsurfcenter (something i would name a job) and if i remember correctly his mum runs hotels. So it’s not like he has no food from tomorrow on. And … He is Ricardo Campello!!!!! He won’t have trouble finding a new sponsor … Because there is few riders to match his skills! And yes you can be excided … Because when he is on a new sponsor he’ll want to show he’s got the stuff … Wait ans see.
Boris- fron the same reason there are no kids and women in MLB, NHL, NBA or Premiere League. I hope you understand the point now. Joe- AWT actually produces a lot of value for sponsors. Dive a little deeper into the subject and you will also know why. The thing is that potential sponsors are not looking for fun neither for cool. They are looking for numbers. NUMBERS are what make companies attracted. If numbers are good, sponsoring opportunities come under consideration. If further analyses show that return will also be good as well as reach will be big, then… Read more »
If I saw kids or amateurs on the webcast, I would turn it off because its boring as hell. As a member of the younger generation I can attest thats its lame as hell to watch a family event as opposed to a professional event with careers at stake and performances to match. The AWT may provide good value for sponsors but its not the way a professional tour should be run. Running it like the AWT will turn the PWA into a JOKE. The AWT is a great tour in its own rights but why would a kid want… Read more »
I think you are all missing point of the AWT and PWA. The AWT is a Pro-Am event. Pro-Am’s in sport have a few major purposes. 1) As you all know Pro-Am’s give amateurs and professionals an opportunity to compete. This results in several outcomes. That include: i) Professionals and amateurs usually win prize money, the participants are able to show their talent to sponsors and hopefully attract national or international sponsorship. ii) Sponsors are able by advertize by having team riders ride their gear and possibly win the event, by advertizing with flags, banners and signs, sometimes through TV… Read more »
We are essentially arguing the same point. I agree with everything you say, AWT is great and needed in the sport. The PWA is also needed in the sport, but as you said its being run appallingly.
Hi everyone, It is the first time I am writing on this forum. RC situation is coming from the global situation in our sport. First, we are a part of the sailing association(I personallly come from sailing), and they are corrupted old faggots. Let’s say that fish always smells from the head. How is it possible that FIS puts every discipline wich skiers or snowborders invent in the Olimpics almost instantly? This is the first problem. The second problem is the competition system (pwa, efpt…). Preventing people from participating by way of limiting entry to events to 32 people. Be serious…… Read more »
His contract wasn’t killed. It finished and didn’t get extended… May he want too much money?? Our sport is in a big crisis.. If everybody just buy Jp and Neilpryde (NP is a brand for wetsuits and wind/kite equipment) does brands can pay a lot….
You are a clown. DO you really think putting bloody kids in PWA events would somehow boost the sport? HOW. There are a lot of idiotic comments on this site but your one takes the cake. If the PWA (PROFESSIONAL…) were to make it family orientated and stuff it would ruin the legitimacy of the sport, what young person would want to go into such a lame sport where instead of a professional event there is some stupid family fair. The AWT is good in its own niche way but there is NO WAY it is bringing more people into… Read more »
One more reason not to buy JP / NP
I’d be curious how much more product JP/NP sold because they had RC on the roster in the last couple of years. My guess is not a whole lot more. The product stands for itself with plenty of top guys proving the case. RC is a great windsurfer, no doubt, and fun to watch, but my guess is that there are a lot of talented hungry guys out there that will throw it down for less or offer more value that goes beyond performing on the PWA tour. Just take a look around this site. This is a small industry… Read more »
