Philip Köster wins the Single Elimination in front of Victor Fernandez, Dario Ojeda and Daniel Bruch. With wind speeds up to 60knots, this was the most windy day during a Worldcup in Pozo we have ever witnessed. When we came to the beach, Philip Köster was already on the water, testing his 3,7 sail, which he used for the very first time.

Philip Köster warm-up session

In the morning of day four, the best wave sailors were busy, rigging their smallest sails and keeping concentrated not to be blown away. The first heat of the day was the losers final for place 3 in the single elimination: Ojeda against Bruch, Pozo against El Cabezo. The local hero Ojedo did not disappoint his fans, which came to the beach. He nailed massive Back- and Forwardloops, plus slided through Backside 360s. Dany Bruch fought hard, but had a massive wipe-out, lost several times his rigg and had a serious fight with the storm. Dario won the heat and was visibly pleased to stand next to Fernandez and Köster on the podium.

WINNERSFINAL

In the big final of the single we saw the two giants of side-onshore wavesailing. Victor was on a waveriding mission, landed two great Goiters and a massive Backside 360°. He tweaked Backside Airs and carved through deep Bottom Turns, plus he nailed several Doubles plus Backies. All was not enough against a strong sailing Philip, who jumped a bit higher and landed more precise. And he had one waveride with all possible difficulties and tricks. A 5:0 decision for the 18 year-old worldchampion fromVargas, Gran Canaria.

DOUBLE ELIMINATION

Straight after the final in the Single Elimination, the Double Elimination got started. The stand-out sailor of the double elimination was Alex Mussolini, who even landed a Pushloop coming in. PWA: “Mussolini’s jumping was outstanding today, but it was his wave riding that really separated him from the rest of his opponents.” His next opponent is Marcilio Browne, who won against an excellent sailing Kauli Seadi. Marcilio is definitely on form and will do everything to come onto the podium. As well still in the game are  Klaas Voget and Robby Swift, who dislocated his little toe on the left foot.

The first possible start for tomorrow is scheduled for 10:30. Stay tuned. 6 or 7 more heats to go until we know the 2012 winner of Pozo Izquierdo. The double elimination of the ladies just saw two heats and a knee injury of Olya Raskina after a hard forward loop crash. We hope she will have a speedy recovery.
