Polish pro racer Maciek Rutkowski released his 4th episode of his vlog series WINDSURFLIFE. In this clip he shows how he trains off the water during the winter. Maciek was slim, when he was a kid. Over the past years he gained weight and coordination through functional training with experienced coaches in Poland. Maciek isn’t tall, but managed to reach 90 kg.
Maciek Rutkowski: “This week I show you how I trained off the water in the past weeks and we dive into physical preparation with the world’s best slalom sailors like Matteo Iachino, Pierre Mortefon, Jordy Vonk and more. How do they train? How important is the off water preparation? Is fat really fast?”

If you want to reap the benefits of windsurfing you should be on the light side, imho. Look at the wave guys Browzy,Robby,Traversa, Jaeger etc.- slim and fit not fat and fit. Even mighty Koester has realized that extra pizza is hampering his HUGE talent in real world conditions… As for excessive body building and training- overworking again can cause injury. The fittest are not the best in most cases.
You clearly didnt understand what the video is about. Its about slalom racing. Not wavesailing. None of the guys you mentioned are slalom racers and none of the guys in the video have ever missed an event due to injury.
I agree. I just shared a general opinion. After all,Maciek you are a pro and know better . I respect for what you are doing and please keep posting these vids of yours.
I think its you who did not understand the comment after all
Well… You NEED to be around 90kg if you want to be competitive in PWA slalom nowadays, obviously, this is just one of the requisites.
Waves and Freestyle you can perform from 60 – 90kg, 5% fat or 20%, it doesn’t matter, and I love the fact that you can be world champion in windsurfing (waves or freestyle) despite the body that you’ve been given. I think that’s great, it’s hard to find another sport like this, usually they are clearly focus in one specialized kind of body.
