Maciek Rutkowski (Pol-23) returned back to Poland, after many months of slalom/wave training on Tenerife. Maciek, a goofy skater, who loves to play Basketball and was ranked 16th in the overall slalom ranking last season, trained together with his friends and some of the world’s best windsurfing colleagues on the slalom courses at El Medano. This winter saw a lot of highs and lows for Maciek, but the 23 year-old managed to bring back his focus and goals.

 

“It was a long winter in Tenerife… Very emotional for obvious reasons… But after the first wave of sadness, anger and unanswerable questions went away after a few very long days of thinking I asked myself: “What would he do?” And I think the answer is that he would take away everything possible to take away from a situation like this and than keep doing his thing even harder than he usually was if thats even possible. So that’s what I did. I trained, windsurfed, tried to jump, hit the lip went on the rocks, played basketball, mixed music, edited footage.. But I never forgot about Alberto and I don’t think I ever will… This one’s for him. And in my eyes it’s a pretty good one – hope you guys enjoy it too!” Maciek Rutkowski

 

We like the style of Maciek as he isn’t only focused on the racing discipline. He spends more time than most of the other Slalom racers in waves and he is able to improve his style in wave riding each year (he already qualified a few times in trials for the main world cup events). Poland isn’t the country of waves, wave riding and reefs. And Maciek can jump, probably not as high as Philip Köster, Alex Mussolini or Victor Fernandez, but high enough to impress the crowd on the beach.
