The final PWA event in New Caledonia provided a thrilling finale to the 2019 PWA World Tour as Pierre Mortefon & Delphine Cousin Questel walk away as Slalom World Champions. The PWA Slalom champion decision came down to the final elimination.

Marion & Pierre Mortefon, the fast siblings from South of France, win the PWA finale in New Caledonia. The conditions were really challenging and both fleets, women and men, completed 11 eliminations in 4 days. Pierre, who had a disastrous event start as he got disqualified in elimination one due to hard sailing against Ross Williams, not only won the event but also the 2019 PWA Slalom Champion title for the first time in his career.

Also the women were having a hard fight for the PWA Slalom title. Delphine Cousin Questel who was leading the title race before the final event, had a slow start and Marion Mortefon was winning race after race. But in the end the experienced sailor Cousin Questel started a catch-up chase and secured her 4th PWA Slalom title.

The PWA Slalom Title

Pierre Mortefon has been competing on the PWA Slalom tour since 2008, won 7 PWA Slalom World Cups and always finished within the top tree in the last 6 years. This year it was tough battle with Italian Matteo Iachino, who already won his first Slalom title back in 2016 and 10 Slalom PWA events in his career. Antoine Albeau, the 25 times World Champion, showed great performance in Noumea and finished in third place. In 2019 he managed to win one event, the high wind slalom in Sotavento. But there is no question about Antoine Albeau’s performance. In the last 6 years he won 12 Slalom events and 4 PWA Slalom World titles.

She already won 9 Slalom World Cups in her career, the World titles in 2013, 2014, 2018 and the Foil World title in 2019, too.

Congrats to the winners!

Marion Mortefon won her first PWA Slalom event in Noumea and finished 2nd in the overall ranking in front of Maelle Guilbaud.
