Phil Horrocks wins the first tourstop of the BWA (British Wavesailing Association), which took place at Rhosneigr, Wales from the 11th until the 13th of May. In total the British Wavesailing Tour consists of 4 events (Wales, Ireland, Scotland, England). Phil Horrocks: “Great result for me,  super happy with the win, always a good way to start the season!” In the ladies competition it was the Polish windsurfing lady Justina Sniady, who won the event. Scott McDowell won the Amateur category, Luke Raistrick the Youth and Davey Edmiston the masters.

The majority of the action took place on Sunday, the final day of the event. “The conditions really kicked in and we ended up with three jumps and two waves,” head judge Duncan Coombs stated. During the competition days the conditions varied from sideshore starboard tack to side onshore port tack. The level in the final between Phil Horrocks and Adam Lewis was on a very high level. Both showed difficult jumps like Double Forwards, Table Top Forwards and Tweaked Pushloops.

Phil Horrocks: “It was a really fun event at my home spot, and its nice to show it when it’s working pretty good, it gets a lot better than that but still, this was one of the more fun days. We had a very strong fleet again, the British guys are all pretty good and it was nice to come out on top, some of the younger guys like Adam Lewis are becoming more consistent and it’s getting tougher with every event, John Skye was ripping along with Ben Proffitt and Jamie Hancock, all these guys are regulars on the PWA and it was good to have them showcasing one of the UK’s best beaches! I think it helps you feel comfortable in the event when it’s your home spot, you’re not nervous about catching waves are getting jumps so much as you know better than anyone where you can always find them! I was enjoying the conditions, 4.0 manic full power on my 74 DaCurve fore the finals and all the double elimination, similar to what I use a lot in Cape Town so I felt right at home on the gear and in the spot, it all just came together this time! Let’s hope all the events this year are this good!”

Justyna Sniady: “3.7 fully powered up and some waves (in the later heats)!! What more could I ask for?! My perfect conditions!…I sailed much better in my second heat I got few forwards and a pushloop in and at least one of the waves I was super happy with getting some proper smacks! Got that heat as well! Stoked! We had another heat that day to make the results as fair as possible and I was really happy about claiming an overall victory!”
