In July 1996, Continentseven co-founder Chris Pressler and Thomas Miklautsch windsurfed in front of the Knik Glacier in Alaska. Although the Knik Glacier is still massive, it continues to shrink, a powerful reminder of how climate change is transforming our planet and the waters we rely on. Glaciers are melting faster than ever.

Glaciers are Earth’s water towers, supplying the rivers and oceans that sustain life, drinking water supply, biodiversity and our sport. But the glaciers melt at record speeds!! Rising sea levels, extreme weather and shifting coastlines are causing problems on costs worldwide. Human beings and nature are losing their usual livelihood.

Today is the UN World Water Day 2025! Let’s recognize today – the this year’s theme is ‘Glacier Preservation’ – the urgent need to protect our environment with special consideration of the existing frozen water reserves. Reducing our carbon footprint, protecting our oceans and raising awareness are steps we can all take to make a little difference. Saving our glaciers is a survival strategy for people and the planet.
