Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2024 Day 2 – Wave single elimination Women & Wen
Classic stormy onshore wind, 11° air temperature and pushing tides welcomed the riders in the morning of day 2 at Westerland, Sylt. The men wave single elimination got started around 7:40 – the first morning light appeared around 7:26 at the event and heat area.
The wind conditions were very much onshore, what allowed jumps on both tacks. To be in the right place with the right equipment was crucial. But first you need to make it through the white water and shore break to be able to score points. Riders were on sails in between 4.5m and 5.3m in 20 to 30 knots of wind.

Women Single elimination
14 ladies entered the wave competition. The conditions were tricky with a lot of current and changing tides. Sarah-Quita Offringa had a very close call against Sol Degrieck in the semi finals and managed to overtake 14 year-old Sol with her last wave ride. Sol then managed to beat current Word Tour leader Lina Erpenstein in the runners up final. The winners final saw some drama. Alexia Kiefer-Quintana didn’t make it over the nasty shore break and Sarah-Quita Offringa had a solo heat, competing against herself in the wild conditions. Sarah-Quita Offringa was smart and stayed outside on the water to wait for her next heat.
Congrats to all winners! Indeed the young kids showed fantastic skills, even in in hardcore onshore conditions with 11° air temperature and massive rain squalls.

Men Single elimination
32 men entered the wave competition. Even during the first rounds we saw a few upsets. Local Leon Jamaer lost to Spaniard Miguel Chapuis, who just returned from a trip to the down the line paradise in Reunion. German local Henri Kolberg eliminated Cabezo local and podium finisher Julian Salmonn in the first round. Most of the other big names showed great consistency throughout their heats. The most consistent riders were Marc Pare and Marcilio Browne. Marcilio impressed with huge heat scores until the all deciding final, when Marc showed what a great competitor he is. With aggressive wavering and perfect jumps he collected more than 21 points and defeated Brawzinho by 7.3 points difference. A well landed double Forward of Marc definitely increased his amount of points. In the runner up final the probably most experienced Sylt rider Victor Fernandez managed to defeat Antoine Martin, who was on the heels of the Spaniard throughout the entire heat. 1.81 points made the difference. Just behind the top 4 are big names ready to fight back through the double: Marino Gil Gherardi, Miguel Chapuis, Robby Swift and Philip Köster.
