The Russian freestyle windsurfer Vladimir Yakovlev (RUS-99) spent 2 months in Sao Miguel do Gostoso. Gostoso seems to be a real windsurfing paradise with palm trees and a lot of wind from August till March. It’ s a perfect winter destination for all, who live on the northern hemisphere in colder areas like Valdimir, who is from Russia, where winters are rough and long.

Gostoso is located around 100 km north of Natal in the state Rio Grande do Norte. Natal is the next big town with a big airport. Sao Miguel do Gostoso, the village has around 8000 inhabitants with a good infrastructure and is quite popular as a bathing resort, but it is getting more famous as an excellent freestyle and freeride spot. Several top riders spent their winter months there to prepare for the upcoming season and learn new moves. Kauli Seadi and Paolo Migliorini were some of the first ones living there.

The conditions are challenging with good wind chop and even waves at several days. It looks likes the excellent ramps on the way out help to get enough airtime and on the way in it’s possible to use the waves from behind as a helpful little ramp. Vladimir improved his air moves a lot during his two months long stay and made his first steps into wave sailing.
