The Austrian championships in the freestyle discipline took place at the worldcupspot of Podersdorf in the end of September. The windconditions were too light to run any competitions. The organizer decided to run a tow-in freestyle session. Max Matissek, lake Neusiedl local from Weiden and Alex Seyss from Vienna performed excellent and both could win the session. Waverider Tom Hartmann followed with an excellent performance in third position.

How would you sell the sport when there would be never wind during competition?
ps. When windsurfing as a windsurfer you get pressure in the sail by the speed of the wind BUT you also get pressure in the sail because of your own speed.
This last pressure is what you need to do a trick AND is basically is also wind.
So its is WINDsurfing and its not easy!!
Eine Österreichische Meisterschaft mit Windsurf Slalom, Windsurf Freestyle, Kite Race, Kite Freestyle mit geschätzten 60 Teilnehmern kann man sehr schwer im Standby Format machen. Da steckt vielzuviel Organisationsaufwand dahinter. Und bei jedem Zuseher-Event brauchts halt Rahmenprogramm, warum also nicht Tow-in… Den Fahrern machts jedenfalls riesigen Spaß und es war ein lustiges Wochenende inklusive Kater und Sonnenbrand 🙂
Und die Stand-by Geschichte wird mit der Austrian Freestyle Tour abgedeckt… Somit sind alle Seiten glücktlich…. Sponsoren, Windsurf Branche, regionale Wirtschaft, Magazine und Windsurfer… Das kommt also schlussendlich uns allen zugute….

WINDsurfen ist und bleibt WINDsurfen, da sollen die Veranstalter von kleinen Contest wie z.B. nationalen Meisterschaften lieber ein Standy-by Format wählen. Aber dieses dämlich Tow-in is doch nur fad und wird dem Sport nicht gerecht….totaler Müll…
