Down the line wave riding can be so great if the conditions match with your skills and gear. Sylvain Bourlard and his friends Loic Frappat, Steven Pichot and Mathieu Demachy, again travelled to the little village Lavanono in Madagascar’s south in October 2016. They already spent a great time there in 2015. 2016 was a perfect reunion at a magic place. The conditions were excellent. Clean powerful swell and wind offered them brilliant wave conditions. Their wave riding looks really nice, riding the left handers with a lot of drive and hitting the lips hard!!
Sylvain Bourlard: “I travelled with Steven Pichot, Loic Frappat et Mathieu Demachy. They all joined me on the trip in the past years, too. I have been at Lavanono for 15 days and I have windsurfing for a good week. The wind was between 10 and 25 knots and blew side off. The waves were perfect. It was good surf sailing. And it is what I prefer. Nobody was in the water. The local people are very nice. It’s my favorite place. My friends were riding with 5,3m and 4,7m and 80 liters. I was on 4,7m and 4,2m and a Fanatic Quad 75.”
Sylvain not only shows pure windsurfing action in his video he as well shows the real life of the locals, how they live, how they help the windsurfers with gear damage or how the kids practice sports in school. Windsurfing and surfing is definitely a huge contrast to the simple village life. It’s great to see that the kids already follow these activities and try to get on board. Hopefully we will see them on board soon like in Cabo Verde, Brazil, Cabarete, El Yaque or Bonaire.
