Austrian filmmaker Matthias Reich has produced a great documentary following Alessio Stillrich’s comeback from two serious ankle injuries sustained in Cape Town and Pozo Izquierdo.
One of Pozo’s most radical locals, Alessio grew up sailing alongside Moritz Mauch and Pablo Ramirez. Windsurfing has always been his passion, and despite the setbacks, he never lost sight of his goal: to compete at the highest level again.
The 31-year-old fought his way back through months of rehabilitation, secured new sponsors, continued to train, adapted to another sponsor change, and ultimately returned to the world stage. His determination paid off with an impressive seventh-place finish at the 2026 Gran Canaria World Cup.
Windsurfing is the biggest part of my life. I have all the freedom out there! I forget about all my struggles. Being out there in the water riding waves and being exactly on your own, that’s the best feeling I can get.
Watch a fantastic video produced by someone, who has the same passion for windsurfing as Alessio has.
