Reunion Wave Classic 2011 – The third edition of the epic contest is on the way
“After the success of the past two editions, the extreme windsurfing competition “Reunion Wave Classic” will take place again this year from August 25th to September 5th on the best spots around St.Pierre,” Steve Palier, the event communication manager announced recently.
This time, the association “Reunion Windsurf” and the local rider Pierre Godet will be in charge of the organization.The company Open Ocean Media, who hosted the previous circuit “Wave Classic Invitational”, will be solely in charge of the communication on this legendary event.
The riders
So far, 6 international riders have answered the call to challenge the powerful waves of the Indian Ocean: German Leon Jamaer (21), Camille Juban from Guadeloupe (21) and Jules Denel from France (21), Austrian Tom Hartmann (31), Julien Taboulet from France (31) and Colin Sifferlen from New Caledonia (26). Remains to be confirmed the locals that will join this year, all led by Pierre Godet, who was the best voted local rider in 2010. Let´s see, if there will be soon announced any other big names, who will compete in the dangerous conditions, where more than a dozen of masts, sails and booms had been broken while the last year´s events
10 days of competition, free choice of the spots depending on the conditions, riders judging themselves… Time for extreme and radical moves, under the watchful eye of a video team and a professional photographer who will be there to capture their achievements. The goal is simple: have fun, push the limits of waveriding, providing a real show and promote the Reunion island through the images taken. The show will start on August 25th.

Well said Georgi, especially last year the Wave Classic events were more worthy wave competitions than the PWA-ones, with the Reunion Wave Classic being the most outstanding event of the year!!

Last year the Reunion Wave Classic was epic. I wonder how underrated is this destination and how overrated is Ponta Preta with its 4-5 Bft.
