The promising forecast for Saturday did not come true. The wind was changing during the whole day and did only allow one women´s heat. However the first women´s heat could be finished and was won by the young Italian sailor Laura Linares in front of Alice Arutkin and Cagla Kubat. The men´s fleet did a few starts, but only to cancel everything a bit later.

Everybody was waiting at the beach until 19.00 to leave nothing undone, but in the end everybody was sent home after a day of waiting. Although it sounds, as if there is nothing happening the whole day, the riders are still under pressure. Everybody trained over the winter is prepared and ready to sail. Ben van der Steen: “I find it really difficult playing the waiting game, I’d much rather be able to sail full power all day and get as much racing done as possible.”

Chris Pressler is in heat 2 and did several starts today. Here Chris is crusing in front of mount Etna - Pic: PWA/John Carter
