The Costa Teguise at Lanzarote eastcoast saw epic conditions. On the five days of competition the wind started light and built up. Big swell came in the bay and heavy gusts caused a little delay in competition. 3 full double eliminations were sailed in ladies and men category.

Sarah Quita Offringa continued like she stopped in 2008. She did not loose one single heat and crowned herself as the champion in the first PWA freestyle event of the 2009 season, followed by a very strong sailing Junko Nagoshi and Daida Moreno, who still can challenge Sarah-Quita. In fourth we saw a technically strong sailing Laure Treboux followed by Yolanda de Brendt from Isla Margarita, who could make it into the top 4 in some eliminations.

In the men´s category we saw the fight of the “upper class”, which gets dominated by Gollito Estredo in the moment. He is great in all kind of wind- and waveconditions and performs without big mistakes. He only made one by missing his heat in the early morning, when the single number 3 got continued on the final 5th day. His hardest opponent Kiri Thode from Bonaire took the chance and could win against his friend Tonky Frans in the final of the single. Gollito had to fight back through many heats and defeated Kiri in his 9th heat. But the supertrickser Kiri answered with an insane heat and could win the 3rd and last elimination of the event. He was on time in the morning and had to sail only 6 heats.
In third position followed Tonky Frans. Overall local Antxon Otaegui could stand the high pressure and finished 3rd just in front of Marcilio Browne.
In the moment it looks like Gollito is on the run to take the title again, but Kiri, Marcilio, Antxon and many more will give him a hard time at the next event on Fuerteventura, which will be started on the 26th of July.
Just think about Taty, Steven van Broeckhoven and hopefully Nicolas Akgzciyan, who will be fit again after his hard pushloop crash.
