In the beginning of February the PWA released their 2017 event calendar with 11 events. One week after they had to cancel the Slalom men event in Marseille due to last minute sponsor loss. In late September they cancel the participation in the Aloha Classic. 9 events happen in 2017.
At the moment it looks as the PWA tour will start in April 2017 with a slalom event in Marseille. The wave and freestyler sailors have still some time left to prepare for their first events. The wave riders will have their first event on Gran Canaria in July. The freestylers will have their first event at the end of July in Fuerteventura.
In the end of September, just before the start of the Super Grand Slam, the cancellation of the 2017 PWA participation in the Aloha Classic got announced. Here are more infos about the reason for that decision.
Slalom is the discipline with the most events, 7 for the men and 4 for the ladies. The wave riders will see 3 events for men and women. And for the freestylers only 2 PWA events are scheduled and only 1 event for the ladies.

One event cancelled again already….
Without Sylt and Fuerte, Freestyle would not be there anymore, which is one of two more spectacular disciplines in Windsurfing along with Wave discipline.
Wondering really what plans the PWA has to or is doing at all to get this sport promoted better again.
If the “professionals” can barely live doing their profession and the events the association is putting its logo on, it is not looking promising. Especially if you see other organizations like the AWT and now IWT manages to grow and organize oversea events for them even.
But not with money and what is it mean to be professional without money?
What happend to PWA-Event in AUSTRIA?
Why does PWA allow organizers to have events that excludes women? I though such attitude belonged to the 1900’s…
Rene, please organize one!
I don’t call myself the Professional Windsurfing Association. If I did, that would be a different story. For now it’s not my job
Lame.. As every year. Hardly any freestyle or women’s events.. again..
