2 times PWA Wave Champion Philip Koster wins the Wave event at the Lancelin Ocean Classic. Philip has pulled off a remarkable double forward loop to secure victory in the final of the elite Wave competition at the Lancelin Ocean Classic on Thursday.

Runner up, WA’s Glenn Alexander actually scored higher in the wave-riding component but was overcome by the 19-year-old German’s aerial brilliance that included a gutsy one-footed Backloop. England’s Graham Wood took third place ousting Aussie Ben Severne in their final.

Mother nature delivered some of the best conditions the tournament has seen for this year’s opening event. A 20-knot breeze combined with four to six foot waves had spectators licking their lips.

The early heats saw a couple of shock results with local hero Jaeger Stone and another pre-event favourite Scott McKercher both failing to progress passed the second round. Stone was eliminated by Wood while McKercher fell to Alexander.

Tomorrow sees the elite kite surfers do battle in the waves event before Saturday’s blue ribbon event, the marathon Windsurfing race.
