Point-7 just announced the addition of Martin van Meurs as a new International Team rider for the upcoming season 2011. Â So Point -7 continues to invest in the speed oriented segment. The Dutch speed expert is well known in the speedsurfing scene. Martin van Meurs (NED-62) from the Netherlands will represent the Black Power on the GPS-speedsurfing rankings. Martin has a long history in speed sailing as being the first to hit the elusive 50 knots but also with development and will join the P7 Test Team working on the new sails.
Martin van Meurs: “I am looking forward to an exciting season with new roads to travel. When I read about Point-7’s new design process I got very interested in the 2011 series. After the Point-7 crew informed me of their plans, we had some nice discussions about the future and here I am – a new Point-7 team rider ready to help making the sails even better, but first and foremost to show the speedsurfing movement just how fast the new sails really are. As always, the outright GPS windsurfing record will be my main focus, but I am equally looking forward to sail in moderate wind speeds and race with and against all the other GPS riders out there in the World. After all, racing on an 8.6 is just as much GPS speedsurfing, as blasting in wind gusts up to 60 knots. As soon as I have put the sails on the water I will be available for questions!”
Andrea Cucchi: “It’s a real pleasure to have Martin joining our international team. We as riders both have great passion for the sport and with Martin’s enthusiasm and focus on GPS speedsailing I’m sure our development program will really benefit from his input. With the new 2011 AC-1 Martin is already set to have an interesting season ahead of him!”

I was warned this translantion looks a bit weird. Actually I am saying I am clearly NOT the World’s best rider in Dutch and I feel the PWA route isn’t neccesarily the right route for every day windsurfers. I feel the focus should be lying more on the fact that normal day surfers don’t use buoys all too often and don’t need to start on a crowded starting line, nor do they need to sail boards which are and sails which are actually too big to have fun with.
