Hawaiian John John Florence (24) wins the 2016 WSL surfing World Champion title in Portugal, Peniche, today. It’s his competitive career highlight so far. John John, born in Honolulu in 1992, was dreaming about a title win since he is 6 years old. With a lot of natural talent and a different approach on the whole competitive surfing – he focused on film productions parallel to the competition side of his career and didn’t get crazy about the fact that he had so many losses on tour since he entered the tour in 2011 – he finally made it up to the top of the rankings winning the 2016 title at the penultimate event in Portugal. The Hawaiian won the final against young upcoming surfer Conner Coffin and his second WSL event during the 2016 season. Congrats!

He is the 4th Hawaiian , who wins a surfing World Champion title. More infos on the 2016 WSL events here
