Jason Polakow, Philip Köster and Scott McKercher were chasing down a massive swell that hit Fiji end of May, beginning of June. They were not very lucky with the conditions, because it rained a lot during their trip. Philip Köster’s windsurfing gear did not arrive and he had only one sail, which he destroyed pretty soon.
It happened to be just a few days before the Volcom ASP event and so he found himself in the company of the likes of Mick Fanning, John John Florence and Joel Parkinson. The ASP event was moved to Restaurants for the first days of the event, because it was too windy at Cloudbreak. This would have been the perfect conditions for Jason, Philip and Scott, but they had left the island already.
Jason Polakow, Scott McKercher & Philip Köster at Cloudbreak 2013
Seemed fairly pointless to sail there. He didnt place any of his turns in an intersting part of the wave + there was hardly any wind at all.
Seriously? Do you know nothing about waves or did you not watch the clip. He was turning in the pocket, close to the lip, I dont know what else you would expect. I dont think a closeout re entry onto dry reef is the smartest move for a windsurfer…
John John Florence = fantastic, 5:12-5:18
