At the end of August (19.-26.) the IWT fleet gathered in Punta San Carlos (Baja California) for their 4th wave event of the season, the Baja Desert Showdown. The conditions allowed results in all 6 categories, although the swell got smaller over the contest period. Hence the final heats got extended to 30 minutes to determine the winners.
The women’s fleet saw a new winner with Italian Annamaria Zollet, who had spent many months in Moulay Bouzerktoune, Morocco before. Morgan Noireaux, who competed in the PWA wave events in the Canary islands in July and August, won the pro men category. “A few critical turns and a smooth taka earned high marks on the judges sheets. Morgan pulled another clean Taka right off the peak securing his second high score, and gaining just enough points to take the win,” the IWT press officer writes.
