On February 2nd, 2016 Australian adrenaline junkie Jason Polakow windsurfed the huge waves at Nazare in Portugal for the first time. The wave of Nazare has become famous due to its size, world records, XXL awards and due to a not so nice incident. Maya Gabeira nearly got killed at Nazare after a wipeout and the media was full with this story. And Benjamin Sanchis obtained a new Guiness World Record by surfing a 33 meters wave in Nazare in winter 2014 and Brad Domke surfed the wave on his skimboard. Jason survived, but destroyed his rig completely.
“Nazaré has been the most difficult and challenging. The waves are coming from many different angles at the same time, making it extremely difficult to judge and be safe. Water safety was my main concern, so having the two most experienced surfers – Andrew Cotton (UK) and Hugo Vau (POR) – taking care of me, and George Leal aka “Jesus” communicating with the water safety crew, I was feeling confident.“
