The 4th edition of the Fuerteventura Wave Classic is just around the corner. From the 17th until the 23rd of March 2012 some of the best wave sailors will come together to ride the best waves at the North Shore of Fuerteventura. The contest will see four teams, each containing of 3 men and 1 woman, competing against each other in the best possible conditions. The teams will judge themselves and will also choose the winning team.
Daniel Bruch cancelled his participation and instead of him, the Italian wavesailor Federico Infantino will take part. Last week the fourth girl got added to the list. 25 year old Dutch lady Amanda Beenen (H-87), who entered the PWA tour in 2011 for the first time, will compete in one of the four teams. 34 year old Iballa Ruano Moreno (E-63), current number 2 in the world, 21 year old Fanny Aubet (FRA-809), the youngest lady in the fleet and Nicole Boronat, the very well experienced local, complete the participating ladies.
Let´s have a closer view on the twelve men on the list. There are 5 local men on the list: Stephane Etienne, Yannick Anton, Will Ward, Albert Ferroni and Shannon Bohny. All of them were competing at the FWC 2011 already and know the conditions at the North Shore of Fuerteventura very well. The remaining 7 men are a mix of top PWA wave sailors, like Dario Ojeda or Jules Denel, young upcoming hotshots like Justin Denel, Federico Infantino or Francisco Casas Garcia, and wavesailing enthusiasts like Andrew Fawcett from UK or Tom Hartmann from Austria.
The competition will start on the 17th of March and runs till the 23rd of March. In order to get a little foretaste, watch here a moveclip, a fantastic crash of Alberto “Mandrillo” Ferroni at Puertito while the 2011 FWC.
