boot director Petros Michelidakis about windsurfing:

“Windsurfing is traditionally already one of the very important segments at the boot Düsseldorf, because in 1972 – I hope I am right now – we presented the world’s first windsurf simulator at the boot. Then there was the development that surfing, i.e. windsurfing, has become a trend sport. We had a huge run of windsurfers for many, many years until the trend flattened out and I think there were just 120.000 visitors in the windsurfing segment, who visited the boot and I was told – I wasn’t there then – that masses of people with equipment and surfboards ran out of the halls. Unfortunately that is not the case today. It’s a pity that the trend has stopped, but windsurfing is very important for us for 2 reasons: surf sport in general and board  sport in general. We try to get the newcomers on the boot again, who are interested in board sports. We will also rename our hall. In the future it will be the surf sports hall, the trend sports hall, because we will put the emphasis on surfing, whether it is windsurfing or surfing or wake boarding or kitesurfing, but it will definitely be the thing with which you can glide on the water. And that is what we do in this hall.”
