The waveriding competition got started at Witsands today in the morning. The NW wind, together with a nice big swell delivered great down-the-line but tricky conditions. Sometimes no planning conditions.
Following 3 sailors already made it into the Semi Finals: Kevin Mevissen, Ben van der Steen and Andreas Olandersson. Kevin Mevissen broke his mast in a massive set of whitewater far outside. A friend of him sailed gear outside and he could continue and advanced. Great job.
Out of our view the level was really high. Many riders impressed a lot, like Klaas Voget, Phil Horrocks or Ben Proffit. Also the local waveriders fought hard. But for sure this starboardtack windconditions made them a hard time. South Africa gets this direction very seldom in this period of the year.
The Single Elimination will be finished tomorrow.
