Wild But Sweet – Balz Müller rides the ultimate storm

Balz Müller braved the elements on one of the biggest days in his life at Isleten, Lake Uri, Switzerland. He stalls big Forwards, rotates through Shifties (or overrotates them) or lands Cheese Rolls. The water is flying and he doesn’t care. This man flies almost to the moon!! “Wild but sweet” shows how far Balz can push the limits.

“There are days of which I usually dream at night. The violent Föhnwind storm of 20.12.2019 was exactly such an unreal day!  Already the early morning coffee had big waves, nothing could stand still with such a wind forecast!
The foehn wind whipped with more than 120km/h over the mountain riverdelta Isleten, even its rocks rolled and flew. I quickly realized that there was much more wind than in any other storm last year. Impressive water tornadoes, on the Lake of Uri – also affectionately called water devils – really wanted to swallow me from the water surface! Such a Tornado whirled directly towards me, tore my sail immediately out of my hand and I – surrounded by white – clung to my board and hoped my gear and I would not be blown away!

I keep asking myself the question, when will the storm come, which will simply be too strong? There I stand with my smallest sail 3.3m completely open on the Lake of Uri and can’t move forward or backward, just stand in the water and marvel at the concentrated power of nature! I dare to say that that day I surfed the strongest constant wind of my life so far and had the best session of the past year 2019!

That overrotated Shifty was one of my worst crashes (in the movie at 0:55) I’ve had in a long time. I sort of went headfirst in the boom, touching wood. Nothing serious has happened!” (Balz Müller about this big day in Switzerland)

yep its the last years production sail, many didn’t know the freek goes down to 3.3! I`m telling you I wished we had such a freek when I used to be a kid! and also my girlfriend loves that sail since she / we can easy freestyle now in very strong winds! and further a good freestyle sail is also my dads choice in strong winds! about the boards.. I love small boards but as its usually so gusty on our lakes I need the volume so 82 to 90l and to go for big air and have total control… Read more »

Thanks for getting back to me!
The conditions and your action look insane, Balz!!!
I salute you!

Two questions: does the new T9 harness has also such a curvy back (only the lower half has contact to your body) as the old one? Is the lumbar support still very pronounced?

thanks.. 🙂 I was using the past years the Severne Air Harness and yeah the t9 has more curve.. I remember a few years ago I bought me an expensive t3 and didn’t liked it that much (because of that stiff curve)! but now on the new t9 I really enjoy the back support it seems like after 1/2 the memory-foam makes it fit perfectly! I love it!
