Correct!! Well spotted Salomé!!. Bernd used the 2020 FreestylePro from HotSailsMaui and sent us following interesting comments: “I was able to experience a lot of midair control and lift. I’m not very good at inverting, like some of the crazy freestyle guys, so I felt like I was only scratching the surface. yeah Chris, interesting positions from @Bernd! both with my brother @nas.fou.wind, we think that this type of sails is really attractive in many conditions ! (we ride and know especially @sailloft AIR ones), in freestyle for sure with elasticity-power-on-off, but also in wave-riding, specially in european all-conditions, on-shore or others !! … (but we have never joined Hookipa big-wave-style….) big power when you need , pushing yourself through the air, jumping, speed, early planing, … also neutrality-pressure in ducking, so why not in big bottom-turn.. when you rig this type of sail, you can choose and direct the pressure where… Read more »
Hi Salome, yes, indeed very interesting, but I remember other riders, who used freestyle sails in wave. Modern freestyle created shorter boom lengths in the wave sails, too.
The mast (stiffness/reflex) has a big influence, how a freestyle sail works. Perhaps Bernd is using a softer mast in the freestyle sail in waves.
