Last weekend of October. WindGuru forecasted 50 to 60 knots of north-westerly wind.

While some European riders were competing at the EFPT event in Six Fours and others in Carnac for the Watergames, the “Ride Production Team” was searching for the best spots at the French and Spanish coast to ride the heavy tramontane winds.  The “Ride Production Team” was founded in winter 2012 by five windsurfers and friends (Julien Taboulet, Nicolas Reynes, Nicolas Akgazciyan, Alan Arnaud and Guillaume Franc), whose goal is to sail together and promote windsurfing.

“On Saturday October 27th, 1pm, we met at PORTEILS (France). Nicolas Reynes was already on the water and was fully powered on his 3,7 ! On the right of the spot, we saw another guy doing some crazy tricks and after a last Pushloop, where he finished on the rocks, he came back to the beach. It was Régis Bouron, who originally comes from Brittany. He sailed a lot in Pozo Izquierdo (Gran Canaria) and is now living in Amélie les Bains, what is perfect as he is always ready for a perfect windsurfing session with his friends from the South of France. At 3 pm the wind picked up to 60 knots and the waves got much bigger! We finished our session at around 5pm and everybody was really motivated for the next day, because the windforecast looked even stronger. The plan was to drive further south, crossing the French border to the Costa Brava, to Pals !”

The strong cold wind helps to get really high up in the sky and some seconds later the skyfall follows for  Jeremy Amsellem (Pic: Ride Production).

“What we saw was just crazy, when we arrived at the beach. 60 knots and 2 to 3 meter high waves! Who says, that there are no waves in the Mediterranean Sea is totally wrong! Everybod rigged their smallest sail from,  3,4 m to 3,7 m. This was our “STORM CHASE”  and  it shows, that the Mediterranean definitely has the potential to see Red Bull Storm Chase action in the near future!”
