Day 4 was action-packed from start to finish, with the juniors and challengers writing the story of the day.
The competition kicked off with the Under-15 boys’ competition, where Dennis Kolb Gonzalez celebrated his second consecutive victory in the Canary Islands. Surfing at a significantly higher level than his competitors, he showcased impressive Backloops and radical turns that secured him the win. Mikey Maclean from Tiree, Scotland, took second place; while he mastered the waves, he missed the jumps needed to challenge Gonzalez. Third place went to Jeff Francois from Belgium, followed by Germany’s Anton Gobisch in fourth.
Attention then turned to the Junior girls and Pro Junior girls. The girls contested three consecutive final rounds, the first of which concluded on Day 4. In the Junior category, Natsuki Wakasa and Trine Gobisch engaged in a tight duel decided by a margin of just 0.4 points. Trine’s opening wave of 5.75 points gave her an early lead, but Natsuki clinched the victory with a 3.12-point forward loop late in the heat. Fumi Akita took third place, with Bobbi-Lynn De Jong finishing fourth. In the Pro Junior division, Sol Degrieck claimed a commanding victory, delivering a heat performance that would be hard to beat even in the Pro Women’s category—scoring 13.12 points on the waves alone!
As the waves and wind picked up, focus shifted to the Challengers. Four men and four women fought for a spot in the main event. Noah Vocker—returning after an eight-year break from competition—and Josep Pons stood out among the men; both won their respective sides of the bracket to secure their places in the main draw. They are joined by Sammy Ferraro and the 2025 Junior World Champion, Javier Escribano, who made it into the main draw for the first time.
In the women’s competition, it were the junior players in the Challenger class, who particularly demonstrated the talent of the next generation: Bobbi-Lynn De Jong, Natsuki Wakasa, and Trine Gobisch all qualified for the main draw, alongside Milanka Linde.
