Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition

Over 500 delegates from more than 60 nations gathered in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman for the 2013 ISAF Annual Conference. Held from 9-16 November, ISAF Council drew the conference to a close as they made the final decisions that will affect the sport moving forward.
 
ISAF Council voted that all ten Rio 2016 Olympic Events and Equipment shall be included in the 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition. Additional medals shall be sought from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Tokyo 2020 and if additional medals are allocated, kiteboarding events will be selected first. The RS:X windsurfing class for women and men will be in in 2020, too.
 
The Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Events and Equipment are:
Men’s Board – RS:X
Women’s Board – RS:X
Men’s One Person Dinghy – Laser
Women’s One Person Dinghy – Laser Radial
Heavyweight Men’s One Person Dinghy – Finn
Men’s Skiff – 49er
Women’s Skiff – 49erFX
Men’s Two Person Dinghy – 470
Women’s Two Person Dinghy – 470
Mixed Two Person Multihull – Nacra 17

 

If we look back in Olympic windsurfing history, we now have to state that RS:X will be the longest represented class in windsurfing. RS:X already was a windsurfing class at two Olympic Games in 2008 in Peking and 2012 in London and will be the windsurfing class in 2016 in Rio and 2020 in Tokyo. Other classes at Olympic games were represented 1 to 3 times. The Windglider at the first games with a windsurfing discipline in 1984, Lechner A-390 two times in 1988 and 1992, Mistral One Design 3 times in 1996, 2000, 2004.
