Point-7 announces 5 new team riders
The Italian sail brand Point-7 is expanding their racing team by announcing 5 new team riders for 2013: Maciek Rutkowski, Alberto Menegatti, Bora Kozanoglu, Enrico Marotti and Bruno Martini.
Maciek Rutkowski (21) from Poland is the youngest slalom sailor doing the whole PWA tour and is currently ranked on the 27th place overall. After sailing with Gaastra, one year with Loft and now with Point-7 it seems that Maciek has found his team now: “I couldn’t be more excited, specially about the team project and the super cool vibe around it. I been watching those guys last year and seeing how much they push each other just made me think like: Yep, this is it. That’s were I wanna be.”
Alberto Menegatti (27) was already sailing in 2008 with Point-7 then he changed to Simmer and afterwards to Gaastra. It was quite an obvious move that Alberto Mengatti would join the Black Team sooner or later again. Logistically Alberto is based in the same area as the Point-7 HQ in Italy, which makes the preparation and training very easy. Alberto Menegatti “I tried the sails, and I was immediately impressed with their performance. The idea of working together with all the Point-7 team, and directly day after day with Andrea in Garda made me sure that this was the right path!”
Bora Kozanoglu (34) is multiple Turkish Champion and at times he takes part in PWA events. Bora is not only professional windsurfer, currently leads the IFCA Slalom ranking, also owns and runs a windsurfing school in Alacati and is an Turkish actor and celebrity. Point-7: “Bora is the typical example of a great talent who needs a real team to support it. For the last decade, he has been dominating all national championships in his country. Bora has managed to win finals at the PWA and always received top 3 at IFCA slalom events. Our objective it to grow Bora’s talent and that with our team spirit to ensure that he will receive the precious 0.7 points at the PWA finals on a continuous basis!”
Enrico Marotti (21) is a young, upcoming Slalom sailor from Croatia. Point-7: “Enrico had impressed with his speed during his first PWA tour race in Turkey in 2012, and we were happy to take him in the Black Team and give him the team support that is needed get him the experience.”
Bruno Martini (19) is another young Italian Slalom sailor, who is very motivated to improve his skills on the race course.
Andrea Cucchi: “When I was only racing, a key point was to have a training partner on the water to push each other’s motivation and level. I had a trainer on land to also motivate my fitness and already with this little set up the results were improving. The BLACK TEAM idea, as Point-7 is developing, would have been even a greater support. It’s nothing new in other sports, but somtheing which is long time not really existing in windsurfing. I believe it’s a dream for riders that a brand is now pushing this way. It will not be an easy task as it’s an individual sport and many riders have their ‘system’. There is no real education between the windsurfing athletes to work in this direction, but we believe that this will, in some years, create a difference. We’ll make it happen in windsurfing once again. The whole team will gather between the 15th of January in Tenerife till end of April to work together in improving their skills, tunning their gear, work on development of new ideas, but mainly start feeling the advantages as working as a real team.”
