The EFPT Lanzarote event 2016 saw excellent wind and wave conditions during the event period. Two double eliminations got completed during three days with 32 riders (two ladies) competing. Especially during day 1 and 2 some good swell hit the spot at Las Cucharas on Lanzarote’s east coast and allowed the riders to show their real potential in jumping. Steven van Broeckhoven was definitely on form and won both double eliminations and the event. Congrats!

Steven van Broeckhoven: „We had 4 days of competition and in the first 3 days we had great conditions from waves and strong wind to slightly lighter conditions. I’m very happy I managed to win both double eliminations. The level was high, everyone was pushing hard. This was the highest level in the EFPT I have ever competed in. We were pushing not only the freestyle level, but also the jumping on the way out with double Loops, Shiftys and so on. Congratulations to Adrian Bosson and Jacopo Testa for the 2nd and 3rd place. Next up is the PWA Fuerteventura freestyle World Cup, which starts on July 22!“

Adrien Bosson managed to make it in second and was the hardest opponent of Steven. He finished the first double elimination in 3rd and the second one in 2nd. The French man was close to win the second double, but lost in the super final against the Belgian, who was PWA World Champion in Freestyle in 2011. Italian Jacopo Testa was a bit of a surprise in the event. He finished in 2nd place in the first double elimination and 5th in the second one. He took third place overall, followed by Belgian Yentel Caers and Amado Vrieswijk from Bonaire, who actually is ranked 2nd on the PWA freestyle tour. Almost all riders will say good bye to Lanzarote now and travel to the neighboring island of Fuerteventura, where the the PWA Freestyle World Cup will be started on July 22.

Adrien Bosson: „The first stop of the EFPT in Lanzarote is over and it has been really great. Like last year we’ve been pretty lucky with the conditions as wind and waves were firing during the first two days. It’s a really special event and I love it as it’s a mix of flat water in the inside and huge waves outside what gives a lots of variety during the heats and allows huge jumps ! The level of the competition was so high, especially the top 5, and it was a hard fight for me to take the second place after two double elimination. I`m so stoked to finish in this position and to win a single elimination against Steven van Broeckhoven! The event was well organized and with two double eliminations, you can sail a lot of heats, I really felt that I improved my sailing throughout the competition and I know what I have to work on actually. Now I am on Fuerteventura to train a bit before the World Cup will start!“
