Tropical ParadICE Lake Garda – Video

on 27. February, 2013 – 14:06 / 7 Comments

Mattia Pedrani is a freestyler with really high skills. And he not only lands the tricks, when the conditions are perfect, when it’s warm. He lands the tricks when snow falls, when the temperatures are below zero. Protected with a drysuit, gloves, booties and a thick hood. That’s really tough. And he not even had someone, who closes the rough-running zip of the drysuit at the parking area of Malcesine and nobody, who captured the video from his sessions. Read some lines from Mattia (I-00), which must be written by a 100% dedicated windsurfer. Respect Mattia!

“This video is different from my previous clips. The action isn’t as fast and it focuses more on the beautiful scenery covered by 15cm of powder. The track is also smoother and communicates the surreal atmosphere I could feel when walkin around the streets and the beach covered in snow, ready to hit the water. As the title suggests, the need to go windsurfing goes beyond petty things like below zero temperatures and whether it’s actually snowing or not. It’s way too easy to be doing tricks in shorts somewhere where the water’s pancake flat.

The struggle represents the ultimate test for  passion and dedication and once you overcome it, it just makes you appreciate everything more.
As you can probably understand from me autoclosing my wetsuit, I was completely by myself and I also had to leave the Ghettocam recording on the beach by itself and try to pull tricks in front of it.
Icing on the cake, there’s a pretty big surprise in it too!” (Mattia Pedrani, I-00)

You got it? Mattia will sail on Gaastra from now on after he were on Simmersails for several seasons.

  • Silver says:

Now that’s a real Windsurfer! He enjoys windsurfing so much that he’ll even go out in those kind of temperatures. Unlike some other people who stay inside just because the waves aren’t perfect enough. Keep it up! ;)

  • big respect dude. but if there was 15cm powder and I lived near mountains I would probably just go skiing :) or boarding if you swing that way.

  • Maarten says:

Yep, respect dude. My lowest temperature for sailing so far has been 5°C and then I was alone on the water. My excuse? I don’t wear gloves, and anything below 8°C hurts like hell, but this clip reminded me of an old saying you could keep in mind when you think its too cold: ‘no matter how gnarly and cold conditions are, there’s allways someone out there on the water who thinks you’re a pussy’.. guess that’s you Mattia ;-)

  • Hello Guys, thanks for the feedback! I too get a different feeling when watching this video compared to my other clips and
I’m really glad you like it!

@Nils: drop me a line here pedran100@gmail.com so I can send them to your inbox

@Silver: Thanks, I appreciate it! That’s pretty much the only way around here..but also in a lot of other spots in europe. If you wait for the perfect conditions, that you’d probably miss 95% of your sailing time.

@Alistair: Yesterday I went for a double sesh, sailing in the morning and snowboarding in the afternoon!

@Maarten: Yeah, those sessions would have been impossible without gloves and hoodie. And still my fingers were swollen for like 3 hours after I came out the water… the only way to deal with it, is dealing with it! No way around it! :)

  • Jack says:

Sick!Only ever seen Garda in the summer, pretty cool too see what its like in the winter! And great sailing too ;)
