Defi Wind 2013 – Preview

1000 windsurfers at the same starting line at the Defi Wind from the 9th till 12th of May 2013

1000 windsurfers will attend the 13th Defi Wind in Gruissan. That’s the maximum goal and the limit. It doesn’t matter if they are pros or amateurs. The goal of this unique 4 days event is to get the largest number of windsufers together, who  will compete at the same time and share their common passion for windsurfing throughout the whole event period! It’s an unforgettable  lifetime experience for all competitors! The registration is open since February 8th.

 

 

An established concept

1000 windsurfers on the same starting line at the same place and at the same time sailing full planing on more than 20 miles courses. And that for 4 days! This concept was introduced  by Philippe Bru and Wind Magazine in 2001 and has clearly evolved over  the last 11 years. With a very windy, idyllic spot at Gruissan and an usual race format, Defi Wind has quickly become the most popular windsurfing event world wide.

The event is a real challenge for all 1000 competitors, especially when the strong Tramuntana wind is on. The competitors are racing relatively close to the shore an flat water in offshore conditions.  On water or on land, day and night, the Defi Wind 2013 guarantees action. DJ´s, concerts, parties, exhibitions will be on.

The first windsurfers at the eventsite are expected on Wednesday, May 8th 2013 and the first race is scheduled for 12:00, May 9th, along the “Vieille Nouvelle” beach. Let’s  pray for great Tramontana wind conditions and nice weather conditions. In 2012 the event was not too lucky. It was rainy with onshore wind and waves.
