Shades of Grey – Winter Windsurfing in Northern Germany

on 5. February, 2013 – 18:22 / 6 Comments

Mathias Genkel (G-984) is one of the windsurfers, who doesn’t care much about cold winter weather. The tough German just drives to the spot, riggs the sail, gets in his thick wetsuit, booties, gloves, hood and nails difficult freestyle tricks in freezing conditions. Respect!

Watch the latest clip of Mathias called “Shades of grey”. The title describes the winter feeling in central Europe quite well!

“This video tries to capture the gloomy atmosphere of a typical winter’s day in Northern Germany at the beginning of January. The video basically shows some slow-motion footage, combined with the atmospheric music of Iceland’s Mùm.”

A grey sky, some light drizzle and a chilly wind made it not easy to get the action filmed very sharp. The wind was really light as well.

“So I couldn’t do all the moves I wanted – like a Kabikuchi or Culo 540. I also sailed with a really sore back what has now kept me off the water for more than three weeks already.”
