PWA Tour 2013 – News

on 11. January, 2013 – 00:16 / 11 Comments

12 tour stops, 6 Wave events, 6 Slalom events and 4 to 5 Freestyle events – the tour is increasing

This is the first release of the 2013 PWA tour calendar and there is definitely a chance to see some more events during the season. At the moment are 12 tourstops on the provisional world tour calendar. The biggest surprise is the wave discipline, which is growing and got two spectatcular venues added: Chile and Cape Town. “If the Chile event will be on, there is a good chance to see the event in the following years, too”, says Robby Swift, active PWA wave sailor and organizer of the first PWA wave event ever in Chilean territory. The PWA already saw a wave event in South America at Buzios, Brazil several years ago and at Kauli Seadi’s home Ibiraquera. The spots in Chile (Matanzas) work great at this period of the year. The Surazo wind starts around midday and the waves allow down the line wavesailing plus jumping. A great mix of everything.

The second surprise is the announcement of an wavevent in Cape Town. It looks, as if the contest venue will be Big Bay, which is an amazing spot for jumping and waveriding.

All wave events will have port tack conditions.

In total the calendar has confirmed 5 wave events with the first event taking place in July in Gran Canaria. The dates for the Tenerife event have to confirmed yet, but looks like the event will happen in August. It’s the biggest wavetour for a long time with 6 events on the calendar for men and 4 for women.

The Slalom tour looks healthy, too with 6 tour stops. Reggio di Calabria has again dissappeared from the calendar, but Netherlands, Brouwersdam got added. With 6 events, the rider can discard their worst result in the end of the season.

The young freestylers can travel the cheapest in 2013. The men will have 4 events, perhaps 5, if Vietnam gets a last minute confirmation and the ladies will have two events.

All in all the calendar looks promising and let’s hope that many events will happen in great conditions in 2013. Good luck to all riders, the PWA crew and the organizers.
