Sarah-Quita Offringa wins the Double Elimination

Again it took a few hours until the wind picked up to proper conditions to resume the double elimination. In terms of wind it´s the worst year ever, since we are reporting on Continentseven about the competition, but everybody tries to make the best out of it. Finally, after a 60 minute break, because of unsteady conditions, at 17.15 the wind was stronger again and Svetlana Martynova, who had beaten Lucas in her previous heat, sailed against Arrianne Aukes from the Netherlands. Svetlana, the girlfriend of current Freestyle World Champion Steven van Broeckhoven, had an excellent day landing Flakas, Shove its and Esliders, but got stopped by Arrianne Aukes, who advanced into the top 4.

Arrianne faced Yoli de Brendt in the next heat and tried everything to step up on the podium. We saw a tight heat, but Yoli managed to pass into the next round. She landed a big Shaka in the end of her heat, which helped to make it through against Arrianne.

In the following ladies heat in between Yoli de Brendt and Laure Treboux, Laure had a brilliant run. She slided through a Grubby, clew first Spock and a Shove it into Air Jibe. This performance was the ticket for the final against the current Freestyle World Champion Sarah-Quita Offringa.

WOMEN´S FINAL DOUBLE ELIMINATION

In the final the wind dropped a bit and Laure seemed to be nervous, because she crashed most of her moves. Sarah-Quita was on form and landed so many perfect moves. She showed again her domination in the ladies freestyle discipline with an Airflaka, Spock 540, Shaka, Toad, Kono, Switch Kono, etc. Congratulations to that great performance!  “I sailed on my 4,8 m and was a bit underpowered, but the 4,8 is such a great sail, which gives me so much control and great handling. Even when I did a switch Kono fully underpowered I got a lot of airtime. And I am really happy to land a Toad. This was the cleanest one I´ve ever landed in a competition in my career!” (Sarah-Quita Offringa)

What happened in the men´s double elimination on day 4?

We witnessed, who really likes to sail in medium wind, falt water conditions. The most outstanding riders were the Germans Andy Lachauer, who sailed a very powerful heat and Adrian Beholz, who landed an arsenal of moves. We also were impressed by the 17 year-old Rafael de Windt, who had the move of the day, a perfect Skopu with a lot of height, Deivis Paternina, who landed a perfect Toad and a Shove It Spock. Tony Möttus as well sailed an excellent first round heat in really light conditions and Armado Vrieswilk, the 17 year old Bonaire local impressed with ankle dry Burners. Marteen van Ochten, Paul Zeper, Bryan Metcalf-Perez, Nicola Spadea, Mattia Fabrizi and Edvan Souza as well advanced in the second round.
