13.4.: Comment from Boujmaa:

Hi everyone!
I am fine out of the hospital already,
I thank so much everyone for the support and especially my sponsors, without them I wont be here and wont be able to challenge my limits,, it is all my responsibility what I am trying and where I get to, and my sponsors always been next to me to support my projects and my bad situations like this ones,, there is nothing to worry about, I have an insurance or actually 2 different ones they will take care of my hospital bill…

BIG THANK YOU TO KLASS VOGET AND FERDINANDO LOFREDA WHO SAVED MY LIFE..
BEST
Boujmaa

13.4.: Looks like Boujmaa is getting better. The Maui based photographer Jimmie Hepp visited him and put a picture online. > Picture

12.4./0:15 CET: Here is a more detailed report by Giampaolo Cammarota of what happened: http://mauisurfreport.blogspot.com/

11.4.: The Moroccan superstyler Boujmaa Guilloul had a bad wipe-out at Hookipa. After crashing a big move, looks like Boujmaa tried a triple loop, he knocked himself out, and started sinking soon after. The Austrian freestyle windsurfer Michi Rossmeier writes: “That was the highest jump i’ve ever seen – and rotating into a triple then – you are crazy!!!” Klaas Voget and Ferdinando Loffreda, were immediately there to help in the water.

Boujmaa is now in hospital and has to stay overnight there. Preliminary damage report includes water in his lungs, a cut lip with stitches and a concussion.

Now a support Facebook account was set up to help Boujmaa in covering the hospital costs, which will be around $10.000 for the Emergency room and treatments.

More details will follow on that account: Boujmaa “triple loop” accident support page

Get well soon!!!

After reading some of the comments I have come to see how innocent and taint free are Starboard, Severne and Mystic. Almost saints I would say?! I think that once having recovered, Boujmaa shoud ask them to forgive him for not making an insurance……
But why untill now they havent made a statement at least. The guy was going to kill himself wearing their crap after all. Or is it again a heavy financial burden??
Anyway… Boujj you are hero, fast recovery, man. A big shout goes out for Klaas and the rest of the crew on the beach and the hospital staff. Good job, guys !!!

I am shocked how many bold and blatantly stupid comments people left on this topic. For everyone who thinks health insurance is “free in civilized Europe”, I hate to break it to you, but why do you think 50%+ of your pay is going to the government? The US follow a different model where people typically have insurance through their employers and/or purchase insurance. This is why there is lower taxation. Additionally, there are government programs that cover medical bills for indigents.

Bouj is not an “employee” of Starboard or Severne, so why would they provide insurance? I have not heard of one company, even in “civilized Europe,” that provides insurance to non-employees. This is basic economics. Bouj is “self-employed” and therefore is responsible for his insurance, and it turned out that he does, in fact, have insurance.

I saw the footage of Bouj getting stitches. The guy with no shirt. WTF? Was that guy the local vet or the only doctor on the island?

  • forum haters says:

maybe now the guys who seem to love provoking people and issues on this forum will learn their lesson – wait and find out first before making all kinds of silly claims and statements. Grow up guys.

Good recovery to Bouj, the king of pain, the sport needs more heroes like him and less talkers/critics…
