Children of the wind – The Trailer
Attention!! There is new big movie production in the tube, called “Children of the wind” and will have a view on things at Bonaire island. But this time the Director of Photography is a big one. It´s Peter Robertson, one of UK´s leading camera operators and specialist in steadycam filming. He has 25 years experience in shooting feature films with credits that include some of the cinema’s biggest franchises such as Harry Potter and James Bond. He has framed some of the worlds’ leading actors and actresses the likes of Robert de Niro, Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie to name a few. Many of the films that Peter has been involved with have won or been nominated for Oscar, Golden Globe or BAFTA awards for best cinematography amongst others. But Pete is an avid windsurfer, who traveled to the island of Bonaire with Robert McCormick and met Elvis. He has become enamored with the island and looks forward to contributing his cinematographic expertise in making the movie “Children of the Wind“ a success.
Many new windsurfing freestyle tricks got invented in Bonaire, a special style in Freestyle windsurfing has been established by Tonky, Taty and Kiri. The small island already hosted a PWA worldcup tourstop. Many videoclips or parts of movies, just remember “Wet & Salty”, “Wildbirds” or the currently released “From monday till Sunday” DVD. There were also produced a nice movie about the Prokids worlds once. But now it looks like a really big production in cinema format could top anything, which has been done so far. Seek Film Entertainment from New York is working their first movie, called “Children of the wind”. Following lines are posted on their website about the movie:
“In 2010 Seek Films will travel to the small island of Bonaire to tell the story of how young local windsurfers have transformed their community, their island and the sport worldwide. Nine years ago, Bonaire’s local children shocked the world with their unprecedented skill in windsurfing, and have since journeyed to international fame: all because of a small group of mentors led by Elvis Martinus.
Our documentary will follow these children from their humble beginnings to the cover of magazines and what they learned in the process; how they took their fame and returned it back to the local people with humility and pride. Along the way, as the children continue to chase their dreams in fierce competition, tears will be shed, lives will be changed, and new heroes will be born.”

“…one of UK´s leading camera operators and specialist in steadycam filming”… blabla…
And why is it soso crappy? I mean, crooked horizon, unsteady filming, bad acuity, bad postproduction… maybe the cut is “ok”. is it filmed with gopro? Or iPhone? The sound is good.
Sorry, don’t wanted to goof of that film, didn’t see the whole piece yet, but…………..

So would guess, you had a bad dream this night. Just eveluate how much movies like this one can change people´s attitude on the sport of windsurfing. Do you not feel the passion overthere live for their sport. Or am I wrong?

absolutely like the trailer! although the text sounds a kind of sensation-grabbing….

hey chris, no, that’s not my “problem”(i don’t have any problem either). It’s nice, the cutting, the story etc… I was just wondering about this chorus of praise in the text above and then this dailydose-videoaward-like-stuff below… Technically for a bloody hoobyfilmer it’s very good for sure, but for a seemingly “pro” like this…???
nevermind. I’m really impressed and stoked when I see the guys ripping on flatwater. And of course also the background they all are coming from. It’s the best what can happen to windsurfsport nowadays, but honestly, i don’t feel anything more, when i see taty, tonky etc… – stoned out of their heads – cause they and their Bonaire are so so overdone.
that’s just my opinion. now i go to bed and hope not to have a bad dream…

@ Tobi. Yeah, that´s what Seek films is writing on their site.
Let´s wait for the final movie and let´s then discuss about the qualities of someone.
@ Johannes. Please do not denouonce people, you obviously do not know.
Overdone? No, other spots maybe. If you do not like Bonaire, easy no problem about that, other people maybe like it.

i agree with felix. and i hope lots of people who don’t know a lot about windsurfing will see the movie and realize it is the greatest sport
but doesn’t change the fact that it is much easier to buy your kid a football than to support his development as a windsurfer, especially in poor counries, for example brazil. they won’t start windsurfing just because they find out that they have great conditions for it.

Hey Johannes, is winter getting to you, or are you stoned?
Because some of these guys are the most hard working and dedicated
proffesional windsurfers in the world. That’s what sets them appart
from the rest… Accusing them is just a reflection of you, so buy lighttherapyproducts and smile man..

@Johannes.
Dude you are being demeaning about people you dont know they are top windsurfers in the world and they where a big part (and still are) of pushing freestyle to where it is today, if you saw taty’s preformance on sylt you’d know what i mean.
But i have to agree the production of this movie does NOT like it’s done by a professional who worked on oscar nominated films. Four Dimensions and movies in other action sports are way better produced than this trailer is. Let’s hope the full movie does get that professional touch the intro suggests.
But even if not i am still totally stoked to check out a full size movie with these guys in action because bonaire is not overplayed, it s still a freestyle meccah and these guys are the best in the business

@davy: well thats interesting and might not be very clever?! I thought for a trailer u would pick the best parts out of it and have it really nice and perfect, as its meant to be advertisement?!
sounds weird.
Not the real equipment, not the real photographer..at least its still the the guys ripping!
and cesar, if i wanna buy a movie, what other opportunities do i have to decide except the trailer?
and i cant see anybody hating. im really excited about the movie, now more than ever.

Thank you to everyone for your generous support of our documentary! The feedback has been phenomenal from around the world, we appreciate it a lot.
On behalf of Seek Films, we want to clarify that the video is a promotional preview and should not be considered the official trailer of the documentary, as we have not begun production yet. The footage you see was shot by Daphne Schmon and Robert McCormick during a pre-production trip to Bonaire so that we could begin fundraising. We will return to Bonaire in May 2010 with a full crew including our director of photography, Peter Robertson, and state of the art HD technology. After completing post-production back in NY, we will release an official trailer. Further information and updates can be found on our website: http://www.childrenofthewindmovie.com
Thanks again for your support, particularly our friends in Bonaire!
Kindly,
Daphne

The photos I took of you yesterday came out quite well… My computer is just very slow and I can’t upload them easily until I return to the States. I’ll email them to you on Wednesday. The photos of the “floating deli” (I think that’s what you called it) are great…
